SHORT BIO
bio

Greek oudist, pianist and composer Alekos Vretos is a key player of the Greek world music and jazz scene. The same goes for the musicians who have joined him in his journey where the perfumed essence of Middle Eastern music expands on jazz improvisation to produce a rich world music hybrid that is as enjoyable to listen to as it is bold to consider.

Alekos has collaborated with legendary composer Mikis Theodorakis and be the curator of his diglital archive at the Megaron. He also worked with artists like Gilad Atzmon, Simon Shaheen, Haig Yazdjian, Theodore Antoniou, The Greek Contemporary Ensemble, The Kamerata (The Orchestra of the Friends of Music), the Jazz Upstairs Big Band, Yorgos Fakanas, Dimitris Maragopoulos, The Athens State Orchestra, Lakis Chalkias, Kostas Thomaidis and Takis Paterelis, to name a few.

In his two albums, "Mergin" (2009) and "K On Top" (2014), Alekos takes the oud to uncharted territories. Those albums have many flavors and most of the tracks are expansive and soundtrack like.

Alekos Vretos Project is to put on your list - either as a listener or a presenter. The band combines years of experience, friendship and the player's mutual respect and affection radiates through the music's easy grace. Amazing project!
