SAHIRA
SONGS OF HEROIC WOMEN
OUT NOW
March 2023
SHORT BIO
Artistically restless, Claudio Merico and Giulia Tripoti of Karkum Project are always eager to explore new ways of expressing themselves musically. After the album Aljama (Karkum Project, 2022), which explores the cultural and musical routes of the Sephardic communities across the Mediterranean and the Balkans, the creative duo display their ever-evolving artistic style in their newest album, Sahira (Karkum Project, 2023).
Sahira is a tribute to heroic women and features a range of musicians from Spain, Kurdistan, Burkina Faso, India, and Bulgaria. The record has an energetic and sincere sound, and is unequivocally vibrant, as if it were being played spontaneously in the moment. It is a mix of different musical influences from Italian early music, flamenco, Balkan Gypsy, Arabic, and West African rhythms, making it an engaging and captivating.
Some people would call it fusion. However, here is a very original and organic sound with a clear signature and a Mediterranean taste.
