The two guitarists from southern Italy Francesco Loccisano and Marcello De Carolis are renowned for their skills in "chitarra battente," a traditional guitar instrument that was used to accompany dance pieces like tarantella and pizzica. Thanks to their passion for the instrument, they have been pushing the boundaries of this art form, pioneering a new style and captivating new audiences.

"When we started with the instrument, it seemed impossible to perform solo and complex melodies. Over the years, a new sound and style took shape. It was so unique that we went for it. We eventually devised a method ("La Chitarra Battente - Metodo Base”), which was published by fingerpicking.net, and created a repertoire of our compositions. It gave birth to the album “Venti” which was released in 2020 by CalabriaSona/ItalySona.”

The duo presented their works at the prestigious Internationales de la Guitare in France in 2022 where they received a standing ovation.

More recently, they have started to attract international interest and will be showcasing at Womex-The World Music Expo in La Coruna (Spain), in October 2023.

Francesco Loccisano is a classical guitar player from Calabria who has gained recognition for his mastery of the "chitarra battente." He has made significant contributions to the world of music by creating his signature style on the instrument. In 2015, Loccisano received a special invitation to join the Taranta Power Band led by Eugenio Bennato, an iconic figure in Italian world music. This collaboration allowed him to showcase his talents on a larger platform and enabled him to reach broader audiences with his music. Loccisano has released several albums for the "chitarra battente".

Classical guitarist Marcello De Carolis has been influenced by Loccisano's style on the "chitarra battente." Their friendship has inspired him to develop his unique approach to playing the instrument. In 2015, he founded the duo "Cordaminazioni", and released his first album.Since then, he has released new material and collaborated with other artists, expanding his mastery of the instrument.
