NAPOLI SESSIONS

THE NAPOLI SESSIONS

A Cinematic Odyssey through the Soul of a City:

Naples is not just a city; it is a ritual. It is a place where the ancient and the contemporary collide in a cacophony of beauty and chaos. The Napoli Sessions is a multifaceted, layered project that captures this pulse, transforming the "City’s Song" into a cinematic concert experience.

Born from the collaboration between Belgian composer Thomas Noel and Neapolitan drummer Emiliano Della Giovanna, this project is a deep-dive into the intersections of Folk tradition and improvisation. It isn’t just a concert; it is an audiovisual journey built around six visceral themes that define the Neapolitan identity:

  • La Morte (Death) & La Madonna (The Woman)

  • Il Mare (The Sea) & La Terra (The Earth)

  • Il Fuoco (Fire) & Il Sogno (The Dream)

The Collective is a true cultural bridge between Flanders and Naples. The ensemble brings together a high-caliber collective of musicians and visual artists:

  • From Naples: The legendary flutist/singer Mimmo Magniolico, guitarist Roberto Trenca, bassist Marta Riccardi, and the raw energy of singer/percussionist Carmine D’Aniello.

  • From Ghent: Thomas Noel and the renowned violinist Wouter Vandenabeele.

  • The Lens: The experience is heightened by a cinematic backdrop created by photographers Sammy Van Cauteren and Silvio Siciliano, alongside filmmaker Firas Al Halak.

In a world of digital polish, The Napoli Sessions offers something raw and "cinematic" in the truest sense. It reflects a city that is a living museum, fusing diverse musical backgrounds into a unique, immersive journey. It is an exploration of how tradition survives in a modern soundscape.
