Sicily has so much to offer, and music is at the heart of it! 🎶

 

Since 2010, Areasud—a collective of visionary artists based in Catania—is actively contributing to the preservation of the local cultural and musical heritage under the leadership of Maurizio Cuzzocrea.

 

Their work is deeply rooted in folk traditions, spanning music, dance, storytelling, food, fashion, and crafts. Areasud is not just about producing events and making music; they also lead educational workshops, conduct field research, and actively engage in cooperation projects with Mediterranean and peripheral regions of Europe. Their mission is to build connections, establish long-term collaborations, and inspire cultural exchange at every step.

Areasud has various musical identities. 

 

In 2023, from the more traditional Quartetto Areasud, the new project Areasud Electric Roots has come to the light. Led by Palermo-based producer and composer Alfredo Giammanco, it defies conventions, venturing into uncharted musical territories by merging folk themes with electronica and contemporary music, pushing the boundaries of improvisation.

Both projects are now available for live performances in Europe and globally. ​
